Serious Concerns

My son...he has them.

How many nasty-ass, rotten cups of milk do you think he's taken a sip from that he's finally learned to ASK me before he takes a sip from any cup?

"Is it old?" is a common question in our house. Or "Can I drink this?"

Poor kid. I think I need to insitute a One Cup a Day rule in our house. He gets one cup, which will be refilled throughout the day at his request, and at the end of each day, we collect the cup and put it in the sink.

No more finding a cup in some forsaken place and wondering just how long it's been lying there, fermenting. D.I.S.G.U.S.T.I.N.G. Especially given the fact that Zach will be crawling soon and, given his love for inserting anything and everything promptly into his mouth, will find himself sucking on quite a few cups of rotten milk.

Do any of you have trouble (or have had trouble) keeping track of all these damn cups? Is it just me?

P.S. Once again, the CPS rule stands. If you feel the need to call Child Protective Services on me, please give the a heads up so I can be prepared for them. OK? Thanks?

Our rule is that cups stay in the kitchen. Water bottles are the only things that can leave, and only if it has water in it.

Now that he is 3, you should try a big boy cup at the table with meals. Our rule STILL with my 6-1/2 and my *sniff sniff* FIVE year old is only big boy cups and only in the kitchen.

THAT being said, when my youngest was 3, we did the 1 sippy cup a day rule and he was responsible for it. I remember being terribly mean mommy once and not giving him a drink at a mealtime becuase he couldn't find his cup (I helped look without letting him know I was helping, but couldn't find it either). He kept better track of it after that. I couldn't stand finding black plastic Playtex valves any longer. Blech!!

I'd go with the one cup a day rule. With a GPS tracking device on it.

oh, boy do I remember those days!! and just so you know, if you leave them hidden long enough, they stop smelling and turn to a solid lump of "cheese"! Much easier to dispose of that way, without the gag reflex!

Good luck resolving this one ... I don't have any answers for you since we never stopped losing and finding them until they all left home for good!

Porgie only has 5 cups, and she usually uses them all in a day. Every time she finishes her milk, I just give her a new cup. I usually count our cups before I do the dishes, that way I know if one is hiding somewhere.

My niece (4yrs old) is always asking if food or drink is "any good". She started this because she never finishes her food and always wants to "save it for later". Well, sometimes later is too late and the stuff is no good. I think we have scared her too many times by yelling "DON'T EAT THAT... IT'S NOT ANY GOOD!!!" lol

One cup...color coded per boy...per day in the kitchen or car ONLY. Before this rule was implemented I would have 100s of nasty sippy cups throughout the house and car. My favorite was the one under the car set after about 3 months--direct to trash kinda stink.

Oh you just wait until Zach is crawling, rotten milk will definitely be the least of your worries.

b/c my younger doesn't drink milk, we don't have this problem. my older has one cup of milk in the am and that is really about it (yikes that might be bad right) they both drink water most of the time. my prob is keeping the cup with miralax out of the youngers mouth. one can't poop and one can not stop pooping. crazy

Oh..yes, the random sippy cup found under a sofa, a chair, a bed..with rotten milk in it. My son hasn't truly had rotten milk yet, but am just waiting for the SPEW potential.

Dude. One of the first baby signs my kid learned "Is this milk old?"

The best is the play kitchen. I have learned to chek the little fridge a few times a week. Some REAL GEMS in there...let me tell you!
